Thinking about renovating?
What are the next steps?

Renovating your home can be an exciting and rewarding process, but it can also be overwhelming if you're not sure where to start.

Before you dive into renovating your Central Coast home there are a few key steps you should take to ensure the process goes smoothly and you achieve the home you’re looking for.

Determine Your Goals and Budget

The first step is to determine your goals and budget. Consider what changes you want to make to your home and what your priorities are. Are you looking to renovate your kitchen, add a new bathroom, or expand your living space? Once you have a clear idea of your goals, determine how much you’re able to spend on the project.

Find a Draftsman or Architect

Once you have a clear idea of your goals and budget, the next step is to find a draftsman or architect. You want to look for someone who has experience working with home renovations and has completed previous projects that align with your style (they should have a gallery of work on their website you can review or you can request to view their portfolio).

In your initial meeting be sure to ask any relevant questions as this will help give you an idea of their communication style and if this aligns with you. Budget is also very important and you should make this clear before they proceed with the designs – a good architect will work with you to develop a design that meets your needs while staying within your budget.

Find a Reliable Builder

Hiring a good builder will help to ensure your designs are bought to life. We recommend looking for builders who have completed projects similar to your style and have a good reputation on the Central Coast.

Ask for referrals from friends and family, Google ‘Central Coast Builder’, read reviews online, and check out their project portfolios. Once you’ve found a list of builders you would like to work with, reach out for a consultation and a quote. Be sure to compare any quotes side by side to ensure they’re quoting apples to apples.

We recommend starting to research builders while working with your draftsman or architect on your design. This will enable the builder to offer guidance and support to ensure that the designs can be executed within your budget.

Plan for Disruptions

Renovations can be disruptive to your daily life, so it’s important to plan ahead for any disruptions. Speak with your builder and consider how you’ll manage without certain rooms or amenities during the renovation, and plan accordingly.

You may need to arrange storage for any furniture or belongings that will need to be removed or make adjustments to ensure any pets or children are kept safe during the renovation process.
